Oral Cancer
Oral cancer is a serious condition that can be fatal if left untreated. Regular visits to The Dental Team will make sure that any symptoms of oral cancer do not go unchecked – if detected early, the chances of recovery are good.
To keep your mouth healthy, it’s advisable to stop smoking and to reduce the amount you drink as both tobacco and alcohol increase the risk of contracting mouth cancer. It’s also important to keep to a balanced diet. Aim to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day and drink plenty of water.

People of any age can be affected by mouth cancer and it can appear in a variety of ways. For instance, you may have a painless mouth ulcer that doesn’t heal normally, a red or white patch or an unusual growth or swelling in the mouth. If you notice any of these symptoms and you find that they don’t heal within three weeks, it’s vital that you make an appointment and visit The Dental Team.
There are other symptoms to look out for:
- Difficulty when swallowing or when moving the tongue
- White or red patches in your mouth, lips or gums
- Unexplained bleeding in your mouth
- A change in the way your jaws or teeth fit together
- Ear pain
